It may very well be the final arbiter of what is and what is not a pop culture icon. Supergirl has found her way, along with several of her compatriots, onto a set of official United States Postal Service stamps (released on July 20th, 2006). The Maid of Might is featured in two of them: one a character shot by Curt Swan and Stan Kaye, the other the cover art of The Daring New Adventures of Supergirl #1 (November 1982) by Rich Buckler and Dick Giordano.

You can purchase them from the United States Postal Service website here.

This is not the first time Supergirl has appeared on a stamp. In February 2001, Kyrgyzstan released a sheet of Superman stamps, using images obtained without permission from various Superman websites and fan artists. Supergirl showed up in one of them.

What, you don't see her?  Check out the center stamp in the bottom row.  It's taken from a wallpaper created by fan artist David Morefield using artwork by Curt Swan. Needless to say, these stamps are not recognized by the Universal Postal Union, so you'll have to go another route if you want a little Supergirl in your daily correspondence.

I found out about the Kyrgyzstan stamps from Superman Through the Ages, a wonderfully informative site.  You can check out other stamps featuring Superman here.
