Art Auction Preview: Something Special

Hannah Perlman’s contribution to the auction is a bit different from the other pieces: it hasn’t been drawn yet. That’s because Hannah has donated a piece of custom character art, which she’ll draw to the specifications of the winning bidder, who will also receive both a digital copy of the picture and a signed print (Hannah works primarily digitally, so there won’t be a paper original). This is a great chance for role-players, writers, and anyone with a rich fantasy life to see their characters come to life under Hannah’s talented pen.

The following three images are examples of Hannah’s character art:

The starting bid for this custom piece will be U.S. $18. BID HERE!

You’ll be able to bid on this and other items in the Girl-Wonder Art Et Cetera Auction, from October 7-14, 2007!

Filed under: art auction,Comics, I love you,Creators,Girl-Wonder — Tags: — Rachel Edidin @ 6:03 pm

If Guy Davis’s gorgeous pages piqued your interest in Baker Street, you’re in luck: Guy has also donated three signed copies of Honor Among Punks, the complete Baker Street graphic novel. As if that’s not enough, he’s also taken the time to draw a piece of character art on the first page of each book!

Art Auction Preview Correction

Filed under: art auction — Rachel Edidin @ 2:27 pm

The entry “Kind of a big deal” has been updated with accurate descriptions and prices. If you haven’t been following, I learned after first posting that entry that I had misread Ross’s email–many of the “prints” he had offered to send were in fact original art!
But that’s all fixed, so you can budget with impunity. Thanks again, Ross–you rock so hard.

Art Auction Preview: Shaenon at Stumptown

This past weekend, Girl-Wonder.org made its convention debut at Stumptown Comics Fest in Portland, Oregon. Imagine our joyful surprise when guest-of-honor Shaenon Garrity ran up to our table, introducted herself, and asked if it was to late to donate a piece to the art auction (the official answer is “yes,” but we’ll make exceptions if you’re Shaenon Garrity)!

What Shaenon gave us was the original art from a strip of her long-running web-and-print sensation, Narbonic:

The starting bid for this piece will be U.S. $25. BID HERE!

You’ll be able to bid on this and other items in the Girl-Wonder Art Et Cetera auction, from October 7-14, 2007.

Art Auction Preview: Kind of a big deal

Filed under: art auction — Rachel Edidin @ 10:05 pm

With the auction less than a week away, the last few items are going to be going up fast, so make sure to keep checking for updates!

Ross Campbell is one of those artists whose work I’ve been gaping at for years–first, when he started illustrating for WhiteWolf games, and later as he brought his exquisite painted figure work to comics–Hopeless Savages, Wet Moon, and his upcoming Minx book, Water Baby. He draws some of the most interesting, sexiest, strongest, and most all-around-awesome women I’ve ever seen, and the scope of his work–from superheroes, to college students, to monsters–never ceases to impress me: I won’t be the least bit surprised if someday he’s generally accepted as one of the modern masters of dynamic pin-up art. If you haven’t checked out his art before, now is a great chance, as Ross has given us a small army’s worth of both original pieces and prints.

The following are pieces of Ross Cambell original art:

Art Auction Preview: Girl-Wonder Pride

Know what’s awesome?
Pride High. It’s got characters of all genders, colors, cultures, and abilities. It’s won awards from BFLAG. And it’s the kind of good super-powered teen drama I haven’t seen since the original New Mutants.

Know what’s even awesomer?
Two of Pride High‘s signature characters, Scotch and Suravi, showing their love for some of the best girl-geekery on the world wide web!

This is a pencil drawing originally comissioned by Pride High writer Tommy Roddy; it will appear in color as a full-page ad in an upcoming issue of Pride High and shows Scotch and Suravi in t-shirts advertising, respectively, girl-wonder.org and mynerdgirl.com.

The starting bid for this item will be U.S. $25. BID HERE!

You’ll be able to bid on this and other items in Girl-Wonder’s Art Et Cetera Auction, from October 7-14, 2007!

Art Auction Preview: Jack and Jim

If you know me at all, you know that Jimm Rugg’s Street Angel is pretty much my favorite comic ever. So, imagine how excited I was when I saw these: Jim’s inks over Jack Kirby pencils (or at least printouts of Jack Kirby pencils) of Wonder Woman!
Both pieces are on 11×17 bristol. They’re from Kirby’s proposal for a Wonder Woman animated series, scanned from Kirby Collector #38, and inked by Street Angel and PLAIN Janes artist Jim Rugg:

The starting bid for each of these drawings will be U.S. $28. And I will be bidding against you ALL THE WAY.

Art Auction Preview: GWOG

Who’s the tiny, glowering defender of good comics? If you answered “Betty,” you’d be right, but I’m talking about GWOG, the eponymous club-wielding mascot of the Girl-Wonder.org blog. GWOG’s fierce visage was created by Katie Moody, whose design won over some very stiff competition, and who has donated both her original sketches–including another unused design for the  character–and the final GWOG line art:

The starting bid for this set of items will be U.S. $12. BID HERE!

You’ll be able to bid for this and other items in the Girl-Wonder Art Et Cetera Auction from October 7-14, 2007!
