Know what’s awesome?
Pride High. It’s got characters of all genders, colors, cultures, and abilities. It’s won awards from BFLAG. And it’s the kind of good super-powered teen drama I haven’t seen since the original New Mutants.

Know what’s even awesomer?
Two of Pride High‘s signature characters, Scotch and Suravi, showing their love for some of the best girl-geekery on the world wide web!

This is a pencil drawing originally comissioned by Pride High writer Tommy Roddy; it will appear in color as a full-page ad in an upcoming issue of Pride High and shows Scotch and Suravi in t-shirts advertising, respectively, girl-wonder.org and mynerdgirl.com.

The starting bid for this item will be U.S. $25. BID HERE!

You’ll be able to bid on this and other items in Girl-Wonder’s Art Et Cetera Auction, from October 7-14, 2007!

Up & Coming

Newsarama’s latest Up & Coming featured Star St. Germain, a multimedia artist who, among many other things, also draws comics. Newsarama’s interview can be found here.

Do yourself a favor and go check out more of Star’s work at her homepage, www.thisisstar.com. I really love her subtle use of color, and how the playful narratives of her illustrations are a bit reminiscent of pin-up art. But all of her work is really quite delightful, so go take a look and see for yourself.

Tek Jansen: Nice Guy

Do you love The Colbert’s Report‘s Stephen Colbert? Do you love comics?

Would you like to read a comic about Stephen Colbert’s intergalactic heroic alter-ego Tek Jansen?

Check out Scans_Daily’s extract here.

Quoth Tek of an oppressed minority female alien:

Beneath her sadness she was beautiful. For a moment I considered making love to her to boost her self-esteem.

How dashing!

Congratulations Tommy and Suravi!

From Prism Comics:

Minneapolis, MN – On Tuesday, July 3rd, Pride High creator Tommy Roddy and his character Suravi were honored by Blind Friends, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender People (BFLAG) at their 2007 convention in Minneapolis.

“BFLAG recognizes Suravi for her exemplary outlook on life and her ‘can do’ attitude. A fifteen year old blind, straight A, lesbian student…she is just the inspiration future BFLAG members need,” said Butch Arnold, President of BFLAG.

When I first picked up Pride High, Suravi was the character I immediately fell in love with. She’s an intriguing character, heroic and a total badass in every way. I am so glad that there are other people who get to benefit from reading about Suravi and the rest of the cast of Pride High.
