Art Auction Preview: Nobody Does It Like Dean

If you’ve been around Girl-Wonder for long–or if you have any truck with the online community of comics artists–then you’re probably familiar with Dean Trippe. In addition to starting the now-famous Batgirl and Supergirl redesign memes (and, most recently, the Stephanie Brown redesign meme!), Dean is a founding member of Project Rooftop, draws and writes the awesome webcomic Butterfly, and makes some of the best superhero–especially female superhero–art you’ll see. This original drawing, one of Dean’s contributions to his Stephanie Brown / Robin redesign meme, is no exception:

Art Auction Preview: Best of Collection

Filed under: art auction — Rachel Edidin @ 8:15 pm

We all know how awesome Mary Borsellino is–after all, she’s the reason this site exists in the first place, so it’s not like she needed even more good karma. However, she’s dug into her private collection and donated some phenomenal pieces for the art auction:

This page is from Detective Comics #793. Drawn by Pete Woods, it’s from the “War Drums” storyline, which culminated in Stephanie Brown becoming Robin. On this page, bandits attack Alfred Pennyworth and Dr. Leslie Thompkins as twelve-year-old Bruce Wayne watches:

The starting bid for this page will be U.S. $48. BID HERE!

This page is from Batgirl #52 and shows the Girl Wonder herself–Stephanie Brown as Robin–watching with Batgirl as a criminal walks his daughter to school. It features pencils by Rick Leonardi and inks by Jesse Delperdang:

The starting bid for this page will be U.S. $70. BID HERE!

This page is from Tim Sale’s issue of DC’s short-lived Solo title; it’s an awesome scene of Linda Lee (Supergirl) and her boyfriend Richard enjoying the beach:

This page is from issue 16 of Chuck Dixon’s fan-favorite run on Robin, with fully lettered art by Staz Johnson. It features Tim as Robin and Stephanie as Spoiler:

Art Auction Preview: A Wonderful Girl

Filed under: art auction,Girl-Wonder — Rachel Edidin @ 10:23 am

A few months ago, Audrey Fox emailed and asked how we’d feel about her playing with some redesigns for our site mascot. “Sure!” we said. The result, which you see below, will soon be joining the existing Girl-Wonder mascots on t-shirts, the site, and other promotional materials as one of the increasingly diverse faces of Girl-Wonder.org.

The following pieces will be packaged together. They include a signed full-color print of Audrey’s mascot design and a signed page of original concept drawings of the character.

The starting bid for this item will be U.S. $16. BID HERE!

I am consistently floored by the terrifically talented folks in this community–not least of whom is Laura Fox, whose marvelous metalwork and you see here. Each of these pieces consists of one or more pendants and a chain intricately crafted from jewelry-grade copper.

Art Auction Preview: Goggles and a Grin

Filed under: art auction,Girl-Wonder — Rachel Edidin @ 9:52 pm

I’ve never read Zap!, but if this marker drawing by artist Pascalle is any indication, I’d better start. From what I gather, Kasey the Stickle is a sort of super-mechanic; with the goggles, gloves, and grin, I’m certainly willing to believe that she can do damn near anything.

The starting bid for this item will be U.S. $22. BID HERE!

Art Auction dates are October 7-14, 2007.

Art Auction Preview: Ally Is Awesome

If you don’t read Sorcery 101, by Kel McDonald, you should probably start. First of all, it’s a cool, really original story. Second, the art’s pretty sweet. Third, Kel herself is a snarky, irreverent, and generally marvelous person who deserves to be all sorts of successful. And fourth, if you read Sorcery 101, you’d know that Ally, a demon hunter, mom, and general-purpose Person To Be Reckoned With is every bit as awesome as she looks (and I’m not just saying that ’cause she sports a Girl-Wonder t-shirt).

This is an original 11″x17″ pin-up drawing of Ally, signed by artist Kel McDonald:

Art Auction Preview: Tales of the Slayers

I’ve mentioned before that I’ve been floored by the generosity of the donations we’ve received. Even against that stiff yardstick, Valerie D’Orazio’s contribution stands out as phenomenal.

This item should be immediately recognizable to any Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan: it’s the original cover line art from Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Tales of the Slayers, drawn by comics superstar and Heroes flagship artist Tim Sale. It features five of the Slayers featured in the volume, gathered around the Watchers’ journal. The winning bidder on this piece will also get a copy of the Tales of the Slayers trade paperback.

The starting bid for the original Tales of the Slayers cover art (with Tales of the Slayers trade paperback) will be U.S. $325. BID HERE!

Don’t Forget: The Girl-Wonder Art Auction will run from October 7-14!
