Caucasian Adventures: Just Trying To Get The General Flavour Right
July 11th 2007 -
Tired of “general flavour” games where exotic! ethnic! cultures are appropriated and mishmashed into insulting stereotypes? Check out the thread for Caucasian Adventures at the Story Games for Everybody forums, where gamers try to “capture the important flavor of the Caucasian peoples”, including Santa (God of Wealth), the Holy Ghost (God of Death), and a handy map where Vinland is next to Virginia and just under Aslan’s Country.
Quoth contributor John Kim in his livejournal:
[l]et me say that my wife is actually Caucasian, and I talked to her about this before posting even this draft. [...] I don’t have anything against Caucasians, and I’m trying to take into account the concerns of real Caucasians in here.
However, remember that this is a game. It’s not supposed to be historically accurate. This is mythic Caucasia, not historical Europe or America. I just want to convey the feel of Caucasian culture in broad strokes.

I think some of his best friends are Caucasians!

I think a lot of Caucasian people will appreciate this fun look at their interesting and exotic culture! There are way too many games that go overboard with “realistic” depictions of Caucasians - we should just have fun and not worry about being so politically correct!

I’m Caucasian, and I don’t find it offensive at all.

This is hilarious! It’s a wonderful response to all the “Mystical Far East” rpg campaigns. Santa Claus, the God of Wealth, and the special “Caucasian magic” of the “System” are my faves.
